In the PhD thesis “Biophysical perspective on submaximal handcycling propulsion in able-bodied men”, we showed that testing and training, both within a scientific and practice setting should be task-specific. The Brachumera Sport has a synchronous crank mode, the same as real-life handcycles. On top of that, it has a wide workload range of 10 to 3000 Watt. As such, the Brachumera Sport can be used within a wide range of settings, from early rehabilitation to athlete sports. Within the PhD thesis, we found that handcycle technique in terms of force application does change with different cadences and workloads. The Brachumera Sport with Pedal Force Measurement is especially useful to further study the handcycle technique of different individuals.
